Enhancing Equine Insemination Success with BotuTurbo

23 Sep 2025 | News, Tips & Tricks

BotuTurbo is a specialized semen extender designed to improve sperm motility, particularly in stallions with slow sperm motility. It’s active ingredient, pentoxifylline, boosts ATP production in sperm cells, enhancing their movement and overall fertilization potential.

Preparation and Application

To ensure full activation of the extender’s components, dissolve the contents of each BotuTurbo sachet in 100 mL of de-ionized, sterile water and shake thoroughly.

  • For fresh insemination, dilute semen at a 1:1 ratio (extender:semen). Allow the mixture to rest for 15 minutes before insemination to give pentoxifylline time to stimulate sperm motility.
  • For cooled transport, use a 2:1 ratio (extender:semen). Maintain the sample at 5°C (41°F) during transit. The final concentration should be 30–50 million sperm per mL.

 Professional Tips

  • After reconstitution, store BotuTurbo at 2–8°C and use within three days for optimal effectiveness.
  • Particularly beneficial for stallions with poor motility or in cases requiring enhanced sperm movement for reliable fertilization.
  • Always use sterile equipment and avoid prolonged exposure to room temperature to preserve the extender’s efficacy.
  • If centrifugation is needed before cooling, resuspend the sperm to the recommended concentration.

Scientific Insight

Pentoxifylline has been shown to enhance sperm motility by increasing cellular energy. However, correct dosage and handling are crucial—overuse, especially in frozen semen, may reduce effectiveness.
